My name is Toby T-O-B-Y. I like baseball. I like batting the ball, throwing the bat and running around the bases.
My friends are Levi, Miriam, Eli, Jack and Becca. I like eating at cut-cut-flip-flip (BD’s Mongolian BBQ- for the record, no its not really Mongolian but it is tasty) and Heckenbecks (we’re not sure where this name came from- its Modern Nomad but he calls it Heckenbecks- good food).
I can add that the kid can hit! He’s got a good eye for the ball.

I like your bat, Toby! I can’t wait to play with you next week! I want a cookie now. Jack

Great commentary, T-O-B-Y. I have some connections with the Boston Red Sox. Do you mind if I pass on your information to them? They might be interested in you playing for them in the coming years. Would that be cool or what?!

To Toby….my greatest Mongolian baseball player. I am so happy to see your picture and read about your baseball skills. Keep practicing. In Chicago, we have TWO baseball teams. They are the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. Do Mongolian children play baseball? or soccer? or ?
Love you Toby….Grandma

Toby, great picture! Do you always bat lefty? Your hat is the same color as the Chicago Cubs – your dad can tell you all about them. Send more pictures of your sport adventures.

Hi Toby!!! You look so tall and are dressed very warm. Does Mama think you are growing taller too? Do your clothes still fit or are Mama and Daddy having to buy bigger sizes for you?
I bet you are a really great ball player – I’ve seen that arm throw some pretty straight balls even when you where a very little boy. Missouri has a couple of baseball teams too, the K.C. Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals. I’ve even been to some Detroit Tigers games with Uncle Chip. I bet he would like to play ball with you sometime or take you to a Tigers game…grrrgh!
Love you so much – Granna/Grandma

Hey Slugger,
Just be careful not to break any windows! Lefty is good. At least, Hannah and I think so, probably Granddaddy, too. Be sure you stay in shape for spring training.
Love,
Aunt Amy

Toby,
Your bat is blue and your coat is red and those are the CUBS colors!!! You are even named “Wood” like a very famous Cubs player!
We are all excited here that you are such a good player and that you have found good food to eat. Do they have hot dogs in mongolia?
Love, Aunt Beth and all the Heredia Cubs fans (there are a lot of us!)

they do have hot dogs here, but not the kind any of us really care to eat. Even Mark, who dislikes very few sausage products . . . we had one batch when we first arrived that were good, but not since then.
yes, TOBY always bats lefty and throws righty. His sister is the opposite. She is our true lefty, but hits a ball admirably well from the right while Toby hits a ball much better left-handed than right-handed. He does everything else right-handed. Maybe we have two potential sports stars on our hands. . .
